Private Home Cook Traditional Meal with a Balinese family

3 HoursEnglish

  • Experience visiting an authentic Balinese traditional family home, eating with a local and meeting the whole family. You will see a side to village life, not seen by many tourists.
  • Enjoy a delicious home cooked 3-course meal in a local Balinese village
  • This is a wonderful cultural exchange as you can ask all those questions on your mind about Balinese life, culture, religion, everything you wanted to know as you sit in the comfort of a Balinese home.

Your hosts have been carefully selected all speak good english and love to cook and welcome guests. Its the Balinese way!

Traditional Balinese cuisine includes wonderful dishes like urab (bean sprouts and green bean salad with coconut), satay chicken or meat (to suit your taste) with fresh seasonal spices, peanut sauce made from scratch, a variety of curry dishes, Balinese rice dishes and steamed tuna in banana leaves (pepes). You will be introduced to local vegetables and learn how to use them in cooking, like Jackfruit and Snakefruit. Your 3-course meal includes a fresh coconut water beverage (beer or wine available on request) and a delicious desert which is either a surprise or the ever popular black rice pudding.

Your host family will adapt your meal to suit your dietary wishes if needed e.g gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, halal or a specific special dietary requirement. Just note this on the booking form.

Village plate is a community initiative and allows for a genuine cultural exchange where you meet a local Balinese family and you get a glimpse into village life. It is a great way to make new friends and enjoy the benefit of this cross-cultural, authentic experience, which is equally as fascinating for both parties.

And whats even more important is that you are giving back directly to the Balinese people as the majority of the money you spend goes direct to the family: 5% of your money spent supports underprivileged children in Bali through Anak Bali and other 5% to education and cultural programs in Borneo to Ransel Buku, Hornbills and Ranu Velum.

Putu was a fantastic host and we felt really welcomed by her and her family. The food we made was delicious and learning how to make these traditional dishes was both interesting and fun. Putu has also sent me the recipes and ingredients so that I can try to replicate these dishes at home. Definitely recommend!
